The Weaver's Web

Just an old liberal baby boomer keeping a watchful eye on the younger generation.

Where-in I ramble somewhat aimlessly about most anything that catches my interest or engenders my disgust. Politics, religion, widowhood, mental depression and living poor are fairly common themes here.

there should be drug test and work for welfare. it is not hi show up and get a free check for 10 years as part of your income. the system is abused and needs reformed. i work my ass off and make smart choices and i'm by no means wealthy i'm just getting by. yet i stand behind a family in line at walmart using foodstamps. they all have iphones and expensive clothes and in addition to what the food stamps cover have dvd's and video games in the cart. they system needs reformed.

You are aware that the welfare waivers requested by Republican governors have nothing to do with SNAP (a.k.a. foodstamps) right? And that nothing in the waivers negates the work requirement.

You might want to ask Florida how that drug testing worked out for them. Not familiar with the results? They are available here. Seems the taxpayers took a loss of over $45,000 on that little boondoggle.

May I ask, has the possibility ever crossed your mind that the family standing in front of you in line at Walmart with iphones and expensive clothes may be one of the thousands of families headed by someone who lost a good paying job because of the 2008 financial crash?

If your answer is no, why not?
